About Gotland Sheep
"Gotland sheep," found only on Gotland Island in Sweden, are an extremely rare breed worldwide. Their wool is characterized by a beautiful natural silver-gray sheen and curly fleece. It has a silky-smooth feel yet is very durable and elastic.
No dyeing is applied; the natural gray tones produced by nature are utilized, so no two pieces will ever have the same color or texture. Each possesses a unique individuality, like a natural work of art. Furthermore, Gotland sheep wool is excellent in breathability, moisture absorption, and heat retention, making it warm in winter and comfortably cool in summer. It can be used comfortably throughout the year.
In Scandinavia, it has long been used as a noble material for furniture, rugs, and clothing. It is a symbol of the warmth and beauty fostered by the Scandinavian way of life, in harmony with nature—that is "Gotland sheep."
Care Instructions
To enjoy the unique soft texture and elegant sheen of Gotland sheep for a long time, we recommend the following care:
■ Brushing
Gently brush along the direction of the wool with a natural bristle brush, such as horsehair. This will remove dust caught in the wool and restore its fluffy texture.
■ Air Drying in the Shade
On humid days, air dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area. The excellent moisture-absorbing and releasing properties of the wool will naturally maintain its cleanliness. After air drying, lightly brush or shake a few times to remove dust. While it's customary in Sweden to hang it outdoors on snowy days, in Japan, hanging it for a few hours in a steamy bathroom after a shower is also effective.
■ Washing
If it becomes noticeably dirty, we recommend spot cleaning. Dilute wool detergent, dampen a towel or soft cloth with it, and gently pat the soiled area. Then, pat similarly with a cloth dampened with water or lukewarm water to remove the detergent. While full washing (hand washing or using the delicate cycle of a washing machine) is possible, some shrinkage or hardening of the backing may occur, so spot cleaning is a safer option. For long-haired types, please refrain from spot cleaning. For daily care, brushing and air drying in the shade are sufficient to maintain its beauty. If you desire dry cleaning, please consult a specialist in fur care.
■ Storage
For long-term storage, avoid airtight plastic bags. Instead, gently wrap the item in a breathable cloth, such as cotton or linen.
