The pattern is based on "indiennes," chintz fabrics that traveled from India to Europe in the 18th century. These patterns were so enthusiastically received in Europe that their import and manufacture were temporarily banned in France to protect the domestic textile industry.

This fabric is originally intended for curtains or upholstery. We procure it and then sew it into cushions in Japan. As a cushion, you can enjoy the vibrant colors and intricate details up close.
