While crimps (curls) typically tend to appear more easily with higher density, we use carefully selected raw hides to maintain a beautiful appearance.

The NicoFace® design, where black sheepskin is attached to white sheepskin, achieves a seamless finish that feels smooth despite using different raw hides. The skilled techniques of Japanese artisans create a natural and cohesive look.

Sheepskin: A natural air conditioner that's comfortable all year round

Sheepskin is characterized by being cool in summer and warm in winter. Natural sheep wool has the same composition as human hair, with each strand covered in scale-like cuticles. These cuticles absorb a large amount of moisture (about twice as much as cotton) and release it, keeping the material consistently dry and comfortable. Additionally, the high-density wool traps a large amount of air, providing excellent insulation. It's very warm in winter and cool in summer, maintaining a comfortable temperature all year round, making it suitable for use in all seasons.

Characteristics of Sheepskin

● Moisture absorption and release
The goodness of sheepskin is said to lie in its hygroscopicity. Its moisture absorption rate is an astonishing 15% of its own weight. Moreover, moisture is absorbed deep into the fibers, so the surface always feels dry. Furthermore, the epidermis of the scale-like overlapping fibers absorbs and releases moisture according to external humidity.
● Elasticity
When sheepskin wool is magnified, it shows a wave in the fibers, which twists like a coil spring. This is the secret to sheepskin's elasticity. Experiments have shown that a single strand of wool can stretch and shrink by 30%. When countless such points come together, this restoring force works even more strongly, providing a fluffy and appropriate cushion.
● Heat retention
Sheepskin has 3,000 to 5,000 wool fibers per square centimeter. These hairs have extremely low thermal conductivity, blocking external air, and the curled, intricately intertwined fibers trap a lot of air between them, enhancing the insulating effect.
● Repels water droplets and dirt
The water-repellent, scale-like cuticles instantly repel water droplets and dirt, preventing them from entering the gaps between the fibers.
● Resistant to spreading flames
As an animal fiber, there is no risk of it spreading flames if it catches fire, unlike synthetic fibers.

・Daily Care
For minor soiling during use, or light stains, dissolve a neutral detergent like Monogen in lukewarm water and wipe with a towel. When drying, always turn the fur side inwards and air dry in the shade. It is also good to brush with a rust-free metal comb. For heavy soiling, please leave it to a professional cleaning service.
・Storage Method
You can think of it in the same way as furniture or wool clothing. A well-ventilated, dry place is recommended, but there is no need to be as overly cautious as with other furs. However, while the fur will not harden, please avoid folding it and try not to place heavy objects on it. Store it in a bag with insect repellent (odorless). If stored while dirty, it may be eaten by insects, so please clean it before storing.
